The General Education Museum was finally opened to the public on May 23, 1972 under the name “East Java Museum”. Next, efforts began to be made to transfer these cultural facilities to the regional government of East Java province. On November 1, 1974, this museum was handed over by the General Education Foundation to the local government and inaugurated as the “Mpu Tantura East Java Provincial Museum”. This museum was then moved to a different location before settling on Jl. Raya Buduran, Sidoarjo, 14 May 2004.
