Get to know the Soeshiro Sudarman Museum – The 90s generation may not know this person, and even if they do, they only know a little information about him. He was Soesilo Soedarman, a general from Cilacap who was famous as a minister during the New Order.
weaverhallmuseum – Soesilo Soedarman was born on November 10 1928 in Nusajati village, Maos subdistrict, Cilacap district. Due to regional expansion, Nusajati Village is now part of Sampan District. He died on December 18 1997 at Harapan Utara Hospital, Jakarta and was buried at Kalibata Heroes Food Park, Jakarta.
As a child, Soeshiro Sudarman was raised by Eyan Dipakarsa, Soeshiro Sudarman’s great grandfather who was also the first elder of Gentasari village. Eyan Dipakarsa’s house, also known as Wisma Mbah Agen, is now the Soesilo Soedarman Museum. It is located in Gentasari Village, Kroya District, Cilacap Regency. Wisma Mba Ageng was built in 1899. According to Soeshiro Sudarman’s will, it was previously used as a museum. The museum opened in 2000 and has been restored several times.

What does the Soesilo Sodarman Museum have?
The Soeshiro Sudarman Museum exhibits many artifacts and photographs depicting Soeshiro Sudarman’s life journey. Moreover, he had a career in the TNI, serving as ambassador, even becoming a minister. Soesilo Soedarman is also one of the outstanding graduates of the first class of the Yogyakarta Military Academy. That’s why the Soesilo Sodarman Museum is filled with objects from the military world.
When I entered the museum, I saw airplanes, tanks, rockets, etc. neatly displayed in the museum yard. Including the TNI-AU OV-10F Bronco tactical fighter aircraft. This aircraft was used in Operation Harilintar and security operations in the South China Sea from 1981 to 1982. This year, Soesilo Soedarman served as Korwirhan I, Commander of Sumatra and West Kalimantan.

The main building of the museum is the Joglo House which has a wide terrace and many teak wood pillars. The main building displays artifacts, clippings and photos of Soesilo Soedarman’s activities during his life. Soeshiro Sudarman served as Indonesian Ambassador to the United States from 1985 to 1988.He also served as Minister of Tourism, Posts and Telecommunications from 1988 to 1993. Finally, in 1993, he served as Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs until he died.
Next to the main building there is also the Tri Daya Kakuti Room which displays miniature tanks, trains and photos of Soeshiro Sodarman’s life journey with the TNI-AD. If the Swa Buana Paksa room has a TNI-AU theme, you can see miniatures of various types of aircraft in this room. Lastly, the Tri Brata room has a POLRI theme.
Since 2013, museums have been required to function not only as educational institutions but also as entertainment venues. For this reason, a swimming pool, library, rotating orbit, swings and gamelan pavilion were built behind the Soesilo Sodarman Museum.
