Battle history collection
The Brawijaya Museum holds a collection of historical objects related to the struggle of the Indonesian people during the colonial period, including weapons, vehicles and military equipment.

The most famous museum collection is the Death Carriage which is located in the backyard of the museum. This Death Cart was one of three carriages used by the Dutch army to transport 100 Indonesian prisoners of war from Bondowoso Prison to Bubutan Prison in Surabaya on November 23 1947.

These three vehicles, marked GR5769, GR4416 and GR10152, were full of fighters housed in extremely cramped conditions.

Each carriage was filled with at least 30 prisoners and left Bondowoso in the morning without food.

These carts were originally designed to transport supplies, but the Dutch brutally used them to transport captured combatants.

The conditions inside the car were very bad. These vehicles do not have adequate ventilation and the high temperatures make the inside of the vehicle very hot.

This sad story ended tragically when the carriage arrived at Wonokromo Station, Surabaya.

Of the 100 prisoners, 46 people died, 11 people were seriously ill, 31 people were sick, and only 12 people were healthy.

Of the three vehicles that died, only one vehicle with registration number GR10152 still exists and is stored at the Brawijaya Museum Malang.
